Orchestra and Guitar

The Howard High School Orchestra consists of just over 100 musicians that rehearse in four distinct groups.  Beginning Orchestra teaches fundamentals, while the Chamber Orchestra is composed of the most talented and skilled Huskies.

Orchestra requires active participation by all student musicians.  The year-long music courses are essential to building skills and knowledge to reach advanced level classes and collegiate music study.

In addition to rehearsing five times a week during their regularly scheduled class periods, each student participates in at least three school concerts each year, including the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) District 11 Large Group Performance Evaluation in March.

Howard High School also offers performance Guitar at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.

GMEA District 11 Honor Orchestra was hosted by Howard High School on Friday, October 22, 2021.  The Guest Conductor and Clinician for the Honor Orchestra was Dr. Bryan Hall from Georgia College and State University.  GMEA District 11 Honor Orchestra included some of the most advanced high school string students from Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley, Crawford, Dodge, Dooly, Houston, Johnson, Jones, Lamar, Laurens, Macon, Monroe, Peach, Pulaski, Putnam, Twiggs, Upson, Wilcox, and Wilkinson counties.

Howard High School also hosts guest artists who visit from time to time, and we will share details of upcoming events as they are confirmed.
