MLK Oratorical Contest

MLK Speech Contest flyer

The Essay quote for this year’s competition is:

“The difference between a dreamer and a visionary is that a dreamer has his eyes closed and a visionary has his eyes open”

                                         - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Even if the difference you seek is meant only to affect the quality of your own life, be clear on what it is what you want, as well as the path to get there.

Please address these following questions in your Oratorical essay/speech:

  • What dreams do you hope to fulfill that will make a major effect on society or the people around you?

  • What inspired you to have these dreams? (Ex: economy, social issues, family matters).

  • To dream is to dream, but to act is to make that dream come true. What plan of action will you take to make your dreams come true?

  • What are a few shortcomings or impediments do you think you may confront. How will you overcome them?

  • How does Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s quote translate to the topic of pursuing your dreams?
