Visual Art

The future belongs to those who think creatively!  Howard Huskies get to discover their personal voice and refine technical skills with our visual arts curriculum.  The atmosphere of our classes is different from any other venue at Howard High School.  The studio experience provides a relaxed and refreshing environment as students quietly and enthusiastically work on their unique projects, offering a break from the more traditional classroom scenes.

Our goals are to:

  • Create and present art
  • Develop skills specific to the specific discipline
  • Engage in a process of creative exploration and discovery
  • Make purposeful connections between investigation and practice
  • Understand the relationship between art and its contexts
  • Respond to and reflect on art
  • Deepen our understanding of the world

To achieve those goals we strive to develop innovative thinking more directly than a lot of other curriculum areas.  Our instructors encourage exploration and immersion into the visual arts by offering strong, hands-on programs in drawing, design, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and photography.

Howard High School also offers opportunities for Advanced Placement coursework in Drawing, 2D Design and 3D Design.
